The line exhibits various characteristics of basophil differentiation including surface receptors for IgE. It was shown to not release histamine by an IgE mediated system. PubMed: 6166481
Propagation:
ATCC complete growth medium: The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated Eagle's Minimum Essential Medium, Catalog No. 30-2003. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%. Temperature: 37.0°C
Subculturing:
Protocol: Cultures can be maintained by the addition or replacement of fresh medium. Start cultures at 2 X 10 exp5 viable cells/ml and maintain between 1 X 10 exp5 cells/ml and 1 X 10 exp6 /ml.. Medium Renewal: Add medium as cell density increases
